Running E:Motion
A celebration of function as they looked to relaunch the brand. The client had some core technologies and mindshare but was looking to attract a bigger share market . Working directly with elite distance athletes and triathaletes to build a shoe for their needs. Featured here is a peek at the running collection, one of the categories I worked on including cycling and tri.
Pearl Izumi wanted us to help define their new range of lightweight running footwear, called E:MOTION. Pearl Izumi had built up some great heritage in this space, but they wanted to start from the ground up with an entirely new approach for the line that focused on natural running.
Setting the design tempo, I led the team in creating a new design language to sit across all categories, including trail and road running. The focus was on lightweight construction and reducing materials, and bringing the foot closer to the ground, all while maintaining support.
Pearl Izumi's Ultra Running team is an important part of improving the design and testing the product in the field. Timothy Olson ran and won the 2012 Western States 100 and crossed the finish line wearing the new Trail N-1's we designed.
